Celebrities are shaking things up a bit this Spring, by embracing the sunny season with crazy prints- and we’re not talking pretty little floral dresses. After a surge of pastel gowns, and one safe red carpet look after another, I think it’s okay to state that we’re ready for some sartorial drama. From mix-matched fun, to downright insane, check out our roundup of trippy celebrity prints!

#THATFASHIONTHING: Summer Essentials

As we enter the month of May, I’d like to think it’s safe to assume that we made it through the wrath of Winter (you can never be so sure with Mother Nature). And although the saying, “April flowers, brings May showers” could still hold some truth, that’s not to say we shouldn’t be prepared for those scorching hot Summer days that are peaking through the storms. Here are a few Summer Essentials to get you prepared!

The Bright Bag: With so many different bags on the market, there is often the inquisitive questions of what kind to get, each season. This Spring/Summer the answer is easy: you need a bright bag. Weather it’s PVC, neon, or studded, just make sure you’re carrying something in a stand-out shade! (Orange Satchel: nastygal.com)

Classic Eyewear: Having the proper sunnies per season is so crucial to proving ones style. But why not invest a small chunk of your wallet into shades that will last you forever? Save the funky glasses for a cheap price at Urban Outfitters, and splurge on a pair of classic Ray-Bans that never go out of style! You’ll totally get your money’s worth.

Swinging Fringe: This boho-chic bikini is making major moves onto the pool party scene. So be sure to get your shimmy detailing on this Summer! (Yellow Bikini: nelly.com)

Crop-top/Maxi: I’m never totally sure whether or not I like crop-tops. I guess it’s the notion of college girls slicing their shirts in half, and pairing them with tight, black, mini’s that has me thrown. But thanks to OscarPRGirl, I finally found the light when I saw her pair a polished mid-riff, with a floor-length maxi-skirt. The combination is flawless, and perfect for a BBQ with friends!

Turbonator: We’ve seen the ever-so-chic head piece make it’s way through the years now, but 2013 is bringing the ancient turban to new heights. Fancy cut-outs, and saturated tones are adding a fresh take on the hair accessory this summer, and I’m totally digging it. Thoughts? (nastygal.com)

P.S. An amazing  way to protect your skin, while hanging on tight to your sun-kissed glow is with the Dior Bronze Sun Protection Body Care! The product offers unique SPF30 protection, combined with a faster tan!

So for all the east-coasters out there, dust off your open-toed shoes, and update your wardrobe this season with these fresh new pieces! Summer is just around the corner.

When they asked their fans to help them create a tweet-by tweet lyric video for the song, their fans went above and beyond. Not only did they tweet lines from “This is The New Year,” they illustrated them with photos and videos. The video perfectly captured both the feeling and the spirit of the song, much more an expression of a fan driven community than a crowd-sourced clip.
It was no surprise that A Great Big World engaged their audience to the extent that they did.  Last summer, when they launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund their endeavors, their fans rallied, and A Great Big World raised much more money than they were looking for.
That’s the kind of effect Ian Axel and Chad Vaccarino — otherwise known as A Great Big World — has upon listeners. With a pop sensibility and a whole lot of heart, A Great Big World creates the kind of music that people connect with.  ”It’s optimistic, hopeful pop music,” Chad says. “There are fewer songs about heartbreak and more about the meaning of life. But even the most painful of our songs are hopeful.”
Music supervisors were amongst the first to realize the impact of A Great Big World’s music.   The music supervisor for Glee chose “This Is The New Year” for the cast to cover on the hit show, and the song was used as the title track for the film New Year’s Eve and the theme for MTV’s I Used To Be Fat.  Additionally, the song was featured on theAmazing Race, One Tree Hill, ESPN, and Good Morning America.
Ian and Chad met while they were attending NYU, following their passion for writing and performing while sensibly studying the music business.  When they first got together, Chad was managing Ian, but Ian also recognized Chad’s potential as a musician, and their business relationship was transformed into a musical partnership.   They began playing together in New York venues and set the pattern that’s now their M.O.:  A Great Big World perform, and people respond.  “Writing is our therapy,” Ian says.  “And when we can connect with people through our music, it’s transformational. We’re not alone. Our songs are your songs. And that’s what it’s all about.”

#ThatFashionThing: The Skirt & Crop Top

One of my favorite Spring fashion trends that we have seen up and down the runway is the classic crop top with a skirt. Personally, I prefer the a long, ankle length skirt, because it gives it that beach-y, Summer feel, but this trend looks great with any type of skirt, or even shorts! Top the look off with a cute pair of wedges if wearing something short, or a stylish pair of sandals or flats if wearing something a little longer.

I am absolutely obsessed with the outfit by Emilio Pucci in the photo above. The black crop top paired with, not only a long skirt, but a high waisted long skirt! Now that is perfection.

Here are a few #StreetStyle looks:

This trend is loved by many, and is a trend that many Coachella-goers are obsessed with! I may not have been at Coachella this weekend, but if I were to have gone, this is definitely a trend I would have been sporting the entire weekend. This style can be dressed up or dressed down. The street style photo above is a perfect example of a dressed up version of it. Pairing it with a set of heels, a blazer, and the pulled back hair in a bun, the outfit was given a classy look with a hint of sass.

(Excuse me while I shop online for replicas of these outfits.)

Alex Perry Returns For Australian Fashion Week

After a two year break from fashion, Alex Perry has returned. He debuted his Spring/Summer 2013/2014 collection during the kick off of the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Australia. The Australian designer wanted to steer away from his stereotyped evening gowns, explaining to a fashion writer: “They put me in a box, saying ‘he’s the guy that does those evening gowns’.” He shied away from going out of the box for a while, but then realized it was something he needed to do at some point. ”It made me think it was time to give myself more relevance and opportunity, because in this (retail) climate you have to be as versatile as you can.” Perry showed us something completely different than what he has normally done, and he did a fabulous job.  The models walked in sexy thigh high laced up boots designed by Tony Bianco and were seen up and down the runway, worn with short sultry dresses. With legs for days and pushed back shoulders, the models gave each outfit the perfect touch of elegance.

#THATFASHIONTHING: Holy Honolulu

Spring break season has officially hatched, and fashion is taking a whimsical vacation off to the Island of Hawaii. Proenza Schouler, Isabel Marant, and Kenzo have dipped into tropical prints for the Spring/Summer 2013 season, which means we should all follow suit!

Now, I know what your thinking- Hawaiian Print? At least all I can think of when I hear about hibiscus florals, palm leaves, and hummingbirds on clothing items, is the Beach Boys episode from Full House when the fun-loving family shares the stage with the 80′s group singing, “Aruba, Jamaica ooo I wanna take ya. Bermuda, Bahama come on pretty mama.” Okay- maybe I went too far, but if you don’t remember the episode, I know you all have an Uncle, or a male figure in your life who cannot resist the thought of busting our their Hawaiian print shirt on family vacations (Danny Tanner chic?). The thought is just disastrous when it comes to fashion, but designers are proving that the exuberant print is back with a modern, and sexy twist. Say Aloha to the new and improved tropical print. I’d totally rock it this Summer!

#FashionSays: Sheer Genius

After a surge of garments glided down the Spring and Fall runways, it’s safe to say that the very thin, very transparent fabric is back- and sexier than ever. Since sheer texture is almost completely see-through, it is imperative that you take extreme precautions before donning the lucid look. Save the “see my bra” top for a night out with the girls, and go for a sheer collar, or sleeve in the office. It is no secret that this trend can be extremely riskay if not paired with the proper undergarments, which is why adding a blazer, or fur topper like Saint Laurent did, is the perfect way to make the trend go from sexy to serious (nothing I love more than a double duty top). Is fashion telling us to show more skin?

#THATFASHIONTHING: Let’s Hear It For The Boys

Lately, I’ve found myself surprisingly more intrigued by Menswear than ever before- and not just for the sake of hunky models. I think it’s an area of fashion that needs more praise, so I’m here to blow some menswear smoke up the male species you know what. The fashion this season was like nothing I’ve every seen; my absolute favorite collections include, Louis Vuitton, Viktor & Rolf, and Gucci! Coats on steroids, somber colors, and missing neck ties were some of the many trends forecasted for Fall 2013.  I’m dying over the fur accents and classic tailoring that Frida Giannini brought to the catwalk as well. The shock of colors that streamed through the otherwise muted blacks and grays were the perfect pop of energy. Sophisticated, layers upon layers will keep your guy properly playful, yet cozy for the Fall 2013 season. Here are my top picks!
(Louis Vuitton)
(Gucci)
(Gucci)
(Victor & Rolf)
As for Spring 2013 you’re going to definitely need a baseball bomber jacket guys! The look was seen on almost every runway, and is a great topper for the upcoming season.

#ThatFashionThing: Statement Sunglasses

If there is one person I know that has always been able to pull off the oversized frames, it’s Nicole Richie. I have been a fan of her ever since I can remember, and even though she was a hot mess in the beginning, she is quite the fashionista, now. Nicole Richie always has a fabulous pair of statement sunglasses and she definitely knows how to rock them.

Statement sunglasses are now an even bigger hit and we will be seeing a lot more of them this Spring and upcoming Summer. We have always seen them on celebs, but we are now beginning to see them on the runway a lot more, especially during fashion week. Designers, Ron Arad, Prada, Just Cavalli, and Carine Roitfield showed their love for these glasses while debuting their collections on the runway this year.

Celebs love sunglasses in general, but they love their statement sunglasses even more. They bring fashion to the face, rather than just from the neck and below. The classic wayfarers and aviators are going to have to be put on hold for this fashion season to make way for the sunglasses that make a statement, because bigger and bolder is always better in my book.
