#OBSESSED: VS Angel Candice Swanepoel

Candice Swanepoel is VIctoria’s Secret most beloved model. At least, that’s how I see it. She is featured on almost every cover of the VS catalogs, and is given the most spreads during bathing suit season. I can definitely see why, though, she is absolutely beautiful! Of course, every VS angel is beautiful, but Candice has been a favorite of mine since she first began working for Victoria’s Secret. The 5 foot 9, 24 year old model was born in South Africa, and was discovered by a modeling scout inside a flea market at the early age of 15. From that day on, her modeling career sky rocketed.

Victoria’s Secret hires models with similar body types to come in for fittings when their actual models are busy. Candice was one of those models. She came in for a fitting and Victoria’s Secret instantly fell in love with her. “I was about to give up modelling and move back home. Victoria’s Secret had asked to see me, so my agent told me that I should come to New York, meet them, and if they signed me up I’d move. And if they didn’t sign me, I was going to go back to South Africa.” Candace officially became a Victoria’s Secret Angel in 2010, and is now, as stated earlier, their most beloved model.

Candice has modeled for brands such as Tom Ford, Dolce and Gabbana, Christian Dior, Juicy Couture, Stella McCartney, Rag & Bone, Michael Kors, Betsey Johnson, Miu Miu, and more.

#OBSESSED: Lily Aldridge

American Model, Lily Aldridge is widely known for her work with Victoria’s Secret. The 5 foot 9 “legs for days” beauty began her modeling career at age 17 by appearing on the cover of Spanish Vogue (I know, right?) She continued appearing on magazine covers for a few years, until she walked in her first runway fashion show for Victoria’s Secret in 2009. She officially became an Angel in 2010, and has appeared in their catalogs, website, commercials, and fashion shows, ever since.

After giving birth to her first child, Dixie Pearl, with husband, Caleb Followill from Kings Of Leon, Lily took a little break from the modeling and runway life to allow herself some time to enjoy mother hood. She has now returned to the Hollywood scene and will be appearing in the newest issue of Tatler Magazine. In the issue, she wears a dress fully made out of wicker. The dress is definitely an interesting look, but as bizarre as it is, Lily sure knows how to pull it off. And yes, this is also her post-baby body! Talk about a great comeback.

Dolce & Gabbana first previewed this style dress in their Spring 2013 collection during fashion week. (Although, I still think Lily wore it best.)

Massimo’s Newest Brand Ambassador: Poppy Delevingne

Poppy Delevingne, British model and socialite has officially become the newest brand ambassador for Massimo Dutti. Poppy has made quite a name for herself in the fashion world. She has previously modeled for brands like Burberry, Alberta Ferretti, and Paige Adams, and has been seen walking down the runway for Julien Macdonald. That’s not all she has done, last year, she was the face of the Louis Vuitton pre Fall/Winter collection, and is currently an ambassador for Chanel and the British fashion council. The 26 year old has wasted no time in her career and she’s not planning on taking a break any time soon. Now, as the ambassador for the Massimo collection, Poppy will appear in campaigns, videos, and more. She describes the new collection as “Very relaxed and effortless, a sort of laid-back cool but still luxurious. They’re pieces you can wear everyday into night.”

Here’s a little sneak peak of Poppy in the new collection:

Karl Lagerfeld’s Futuristic Photo Exhibition

Designer turned cutting edge photographer, Karl Lagerfeld’s latest photo exhibition titled, “Fire Etchings” opened today, February 19 at the Galerie Gmurzynska in Saint Moritz, Switzerland.

Viewers will be expecting images that include rapper Theophilus London, models Freja Beha Erichsen and Aymeline Valade projected on an etched surface of giant glass panels with acid and fire.

Exhibition

More so, these futuristic portraits elevate the way art collectors will be viewing an ancient art form only Lagerfeld has been wise enough to use. The co-owner of the Galerie Gmurzynska, Mathius Rastofer, has 3 locations in Switzerland. Rastofer has represented the creative Lagerfeld for over 20 years.

In respect to the images, Rastofer said, “He’s always been very interested in how you can push the boundaries of technical possibility…”

The exhibition will feature a series of Lagerfeld’s 1996 portraits that involved a color-tinting technique on black-and-white images done through a forgotten technique involving honey and rubber. The same technique was used to make stained-glass windows in churches.

So far, Karl has been increasing his audience among art collectors through his devotion to aesthetics.

“He will never talk to you about the past. It’s always the next project he’s interested in.”

Cara Delevingne Graces March Cover of British Vogue

British model, Cara Delevingne has landed herself on the glossy cover of the March issue of Vogue UK, eyebrows and all. Truly captivating Delevingne was dubbed Model of the Year at the 2012 British Fashion Awards last year and currently ranks #25 on models.com‘s TOP 50 Models.

“Being asked to do a British Vogue cover – I didn’t really believe it at first. I think it’s something that as a kid you look up to so much,” she said. “It’s one of the most shocking things that has ever happened to me, I think. I just stood back and had to get someone to pinch me. I was like: ‘What’s going on?’ I couldn’t believe it.”

“Especially the March issue, it’s the big fashion issue, so it’s going to be pretty amazing. I’m going to run out of the shop with 20 copies in my hands, going: ‘Oh my God, this is me! Oh my God!’”

Will you be picking up a gorgeous issue of Vogue UK this month?

About the 90′s fashion moment, ["The range incorporates key streetwear designs from DKNY's early Nineties back catalogue - the period during which the New York label first became a household name."]

DKNY’s limited edition will feature items that were iconic in the 90′s and the fact that they’ll be reissuing 15 archive pieces is nonetheless exciting! In the quote above, DKNY was on the caliber that fast-fashion retailers are on today, in the sense that the pieces were what everyone wants to wear. The street inspired label, created by Donna Karen, took place when her daughter would constantly peek through her closet in hopes to find youthful yet chic pieces for her. Then DKNY came about and it was a frenzy!

["DKNY was a pioneer of streetwear fashion in the Nineties," said Olivia Kim, vice president of creative for Opening Ceremony. "We have been longtime fans of the brand and were very excited to bring back select, quintessential styles that feel fresh even today."]

["I have always loved Opening Ceremony. They're unique and creative point of view mixed with Nineties throwbacks are very reminiscent of DKNY's core DNA," said Jane Chung, executive vice president of design for DKNY. "They were a natural partner to reissue iconic styles from our early years."]

If you’re wondering where to catch this limited edition collection, it will be available for the public February 1st at Opening Ceremony stores in London, New York, Los Angeles and Tokyo, as well as online at openingceremony.us. The prices range from $145 (£92) to $665 (£420).

According to WWD, the runway show will be hosted in the Musee Rodin February 27, 2013. Where – Paris fashion week!  With an 8 year span since H&M’s last runway show all eyes will be glued to see what the Swed fast fashion juggernauts present.

[A rep for H&M, told WWD, "We felt excited about the collection and we really wanted to show it." Another spokesperson explained to Fashionista, "In the past we have done fantastic and spectacular events and fashion shows with our designer collaborations and we feel it is time to celebrate our own fashion."]

For many, the collection is a great business idea given that the Anna Dello Russo and Maison Martin Margiela collections failed to sell.  H&M is determined to start focusing on just H&M, the company, the brand.  Why not?  This will be revolutionary for fast-fashion retailers and Paris Fashion week.  It’ll also be an exciting stepping stone  in fashion that will entertain and give the retailer the ‘High Fashion’ credibility they’ve attempted to attain with their collaborations .  Move over Topman, looks like H&M is coming for you!

Trend Watch: Black on Black Pre-Fall 2013 “key looks”

Yes you’ve heard it right!  The new trend for pre-fall 2013 collections is black on black…. on black!  Literally it’s become a big hit this season.  According to a few sources, designers are featuring  “All things in the moody, classic shade.”  [WWD].  Some designers which have taken on this trend are Helmut Lang, Reed Krakoff, DKNY, Sportmax and many more!

Below is one of the looks from Sportmax’s pre-fall 2013 collection.  It’s a very detailed head-to-toe look that I  stood out amongst the others from the collection.  Everything from the hat, to the bag, shoe, pant and coat has a cool and easy sleekness.  This is great because this look can be worn separately into your wardrobe making them “key pieces”.

The look below is one from Celine.  A favorite among many, this look is very extreme yet sharp.   The collection this pre-fall season constructed beautiful statement pieces which again, can be worn separately.   The top is a peplum latex longsleeve worn over a high white collar, playing with shapes and structure.  The bottom is a loose flowy pant that balances the look into a complete innovative black on black Celine look!

Ending it off right, Helmut Lang’s collection was very etherial, feminine and classic.  Playing with texture, he kept the color palette very much in gray, white and BLACK family.  The look below showcases Lang’s brilliant take on a feminine look that is both dressy and casual.  The edgyness of the look is what drew me in.  It can be worn at night with a warm coat, clutch and a bright lip, or during the day.  Worn as is with a structured top and a fabulous black skirt with killer stilettos!  You’ll be sure to have heads turning.
