Movie: The Bling Ring
It’s the tale of one the greatest, grandest Hollywood heist: The Bling Ring. The movie is inspired by the true events led by the notorious misfits called the Hollywood Hills Burglars, who successfully robbed several homes of celebrities including Paris Hilton, Audrina Patridge, Rachel Bilson, Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr, Megan Fox, and Lindsay Lohan.
The film was directed by Sofia Cappola, who is behind cult favorite films like The Virgin Suicides, Marie Antoinette, and Lost in Translation. The cast includes some new faces including Katie Chang, Israel Broussard, and Georgia Rock, while familiar faces like Emma Watson and Leslie Mann are also part of the ensemble cast. Some of the actual victims of the burglaries like Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, and Kirstin Dunst make cameo appearances as themselves.
The Bling Ring will be released in theaters on June 14th.
Karl Lagerfeld’s Short Film Starring Keira Knightly as Coco Chanel
Karl Lagerfeld‘s newest project is a short film titled, Once Upon a Time… starring Keira Knightley as Coco Chanel. The film is gorgeously set in a 1913 Deauville at the first Chanel boutique, with perfect time pieces and stellar hats. According to Fashionista, “Lagerfeld gave Knightley and the rest of the cast (the aforementioned models plus Tallula Harlech and Lindsey Wixson) their lines moments before shooting began and encouraged them to improvise. “Do it your way, huh?” said Lagerfeld. Knightley apparently thought it was a silent film before she arrived on set”
My opinion? The improvised dialogue was very obvious and the film should have been better left as a silent film. Knightley who plays Chanel had a very apparent English accent versus Chanel’s original French and as far as acting, it was crystal clear that Keira was the ONLY actress on set.
Other than that, the film was GORGEOUSLY set in black and white with 18 minutes of pretty hats and faces!
James Franco’s Gucci Documentary “The Director”

James Franco‘s newest project changes gears from acting to producing a documentary, The Director, that focuses on Gucci’s creative director, Frida Giannini. Franco attended the Tribeca Film Festival to debut his documentary last night. According to Refinery29, the film “follows the brand’s creative director, Frida Giannini, during an 18-month period, which gives us a glimpse behind the scenes of the Gucci empire”.
“The idea of the documentary was really born out of a provocation,” said Giannini. “James Franco and I were asked to interview each other for a special magazine feature and when I asked him, ‘What’s your next project?’ he replied, ‘to make a documentary about you.’ I actually thought it was his dry sense of humour at play, but then somehow the provocation became a reality.” (Vogue UK)
The Director premiered on April 21st.
Funnygirl Rebel Wilson Hosts the MTV Movie Awards
Rebel Wilson is making her first appearance as an awards show host tonight at the MTV Movie Awards. The Pitch Perfect star is also nominated for three of the categories (Breakthrough Performance, Best Female Performance, and as part of Best Musical Moment with the rest of her Pitch Perfect cast). For Best Female Performance she finds herself head to head with Oscar Winners Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Linings Playbook) and Anne Hathaway (Les Misѐrables). Yesterday, Wilson tweeted: “How am I preparing for tomorrow’s MTVMA’s? 1. horizontal running 2. Vocal warm-ups 3. Sexting Channing Tatum x”. And with that kind of preparation, I would say the odds are definitely in her favor, even if the star herself isn’t as convinced as I am. She said that “…I’m not going to win with all these awesome people nominated. Like, as if I’m going to beat Jennifer Lawrence? Somehow I don’t think so… I would just love to win one award! … All of us in Pitch Perfect are nominated for Best Musical Moment, so I hope we all get to win in that category. That’d be mad.”
I mean, they already won Oscars- give the funny girls some awards too!
It’s sure to be a kick ass show with performances from Selena Gomez, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, and a performance from the Pitch Perfect cast.
The show is airing on MTV at 9 p.m. ET with a red carpet preshow starting at 8 p.m. ET.

Spring Breakers at SXSW
From March 8th to the 16th everyone from industries of music, film, emerging technologies and gaming all gather in Austin, Texas to showcase their work. The SXSW is definitely a place for discovery!
Sunday night the cast of “Spring Breakers” made an appearance for the premiere of the dangerous and scandalous movie of “Spring Breakers”. Harmony Korine comments about the casting for each of the characters that night “”I hired all the actresses in the film for all different reasons,” Korine said. “They were terrific and bold, but also, in a lot of ways, in real life, representative of this pop mythology. They were all at a point in their lives where they were ready to experiment and push themselves. Lucky for me they did.”
Aren’t we so glad that Korine made this decision, if he didn’t we would probably still be seeing Selena Gomez casting spells on Waverly Place. It is an appreciative look for all the actresses to come out of their shell and do a role that suits more for their age and where they want to move forward in their career.
Of course how can we forget about James Franco in his role as the dangerous drug leader, we’ve also never seen this side of him, he’s always been the hero but never the bad guy. From Oz The Great and Powerful his character saves the magical world of Oz from evil. but now in his new role we see him tackle 4 young girls under his wing to bring them to wild adventures.
Spring Breaker’s release date have now been pushed up by one week and now it comes out March 15th only in Los Angeles and New York cinemas.
The Legendary Doris Raymond Opens Up On All Things Vintage & Fabulous
Doris Raymond has captured the attention of design houses like Alexnader McQueen, Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs and so many more as well as celebrities like Dita Von Teese, Rihanna, etc.. ! She is now staring in her own show LA Frock Stars- that airs every Thursday at 8:00 pm ET/PT on Smithsonian Channel. Annex get’s the opportunity to get inside this legendary s head!
Annex Magazine: You are exalted for having one of the most brilliant vintage collections, was this fostered at a young age? Doris Raymond: My interest in vintage clothing started in the beginning of high school because I loved to sew and I recognized hand work and fabrics of quality. I come from a family of sewers- 2 of which were clothing designers.
Your collection consists of some of the rarest finds in the world, how do you handle parting with pieces you know you’ll never come across again? I have been in this business long enough to recognize when you let something go, something better will replace it.
We know the bastardization of the word ‘vintage’ is a pet peeve of yours, how has ‘vintage’ been bastardized lately? Is this changing as trends are shifting? I think that people realize the power of using the word vintage so you will find contemporary clothing and accessory lines using “vintage” in their name. I think we will only see an increase in this misnomer.
Being a 30-year vintage veteran, what’s your creative process like, how do you manage to stay fresh and innovative?I always like to find clothing and accessories that make my heart skip a beat. I never get tired at looking at the creative genius from people in the past.
You have earned recognition of major design teams from Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton, Proenza Schouler, and so much more that come to your space personally for design inspiration. To experience your historic goldmine of breathtaking vintage is a privilege. Can you give our readers a brief run down of what it’s like when these design teams come in for ‘inspiration?’ Typically when a design team comes to shop for inspiration, I get instruction from that team that can come in the form of buzzwords, a muse, an inspiration board (or rig), references. It can be something like “looking for Deauville in the 1930’s in sand-washed colors, medium-sized florals that have a slight Liberty feel and Deco-geometrics that are not op-art.” Once I get some direction, I go throughout the store and inspiration studio and cull whatever fits the bill. Those pieces are then shown to the design team. Items can include swatches, shoes, purses, costume jewelry, complete garments or just elements.
We cannot wait for LA Frock Stars your brand new TV series premiering March 7th, what was most exciting about filming the show? And what was not so exciting? The most exciting thing for me was knowing the show would be airing on Smithsonian Channel. It is the type of demographic that I know will appreciate the factoids and fun that was captured. The most difficult/least exciting thing was having a camera focused on you off and on for the 24 day shoot.
In the series we’re excited to see burlesque dancer Dita Vone Teese, actress Debi Mazur, Rihanna’s stylist Mel Ottenburg, widow of Johnny Ramone Linda Ramone, and so much more. Has the show opened a lot of doors for new clients? It’s really too early to tell but I am hopeful that people that have been curious about vintage clothing will see that it is accessible and will be curious about the back stories of a lot of what vintage clothing stores carry. I think it will also serve as a reminder to those clients that have been in our store and have not visited for a while. We welcome seasoned choppers as well as neophytes!
